Public InfrastructureThe Public Infrastructure allocation is the largest single component in the state's program. CDBG funds are awarded to projects to improve existing or to construct new sewer or water systems and construct or reconstruct residential streets. Economic DevelopmentCDBG funds provide loans to eligible recipients to assist for-profit businesses and grants for infrastructure improvements that will assist for-profit businesses. Housing - Rehabilitation/ReconstructionFunding is available for the rehabilitation and/or replacement of existing single-family, owner-occupied housing units to provide safe and sanitary living conditions, and for the demolition of vacant sub-standard housing units. Housing - Physical AccessibilityFunding is set aside from the Housing Rehabilitation allocation to make structural improvements to owner and renter occupied single-family housing units as well as multi-family housing units. Demonstrated NeedsProvides financial assistance to help alleviate critical/urgent community needs involving improvements to existing water, sewer and gas systems. LaSTEPThe concept of the Louisiana Small Towns Environmental Program is for small communities to solve water and sewer problems through self-help techniques by utilizing the community's resources: human, material, and financial. Program IncomeIncome generated from grant-supported activities. This is returned to the state and is re-distributed to grantees through our Public Infrastructure or Economic Development program. Revolving FundThis fund was established for the receipt of program income from local governments for principal and interest payments or lease payments that are a result of job creation by businesses. This is an interest bearing account that is used for Economic Development projects. Grants are awarded to a local government who will then make a loan to a business. Technical AssistanceOne percent of the overall HUD allocation to the Office of Community Development is set aside for additional technical assistance which benefits potential applicants and existing grantees in the implementation of their CDBG projects.
