About Us

The Louisiana Federal Property Assistance Agency is a self-supporting revolving fund agency, under the Office of the Governor, within the Division of Administration. This agency has an annual operating budget of approximately $4,000,000. Our operating funds are derived from the levy of a service charge on approximately $23,000,000 OAC worth of surplus federal property we receive each year. This property comes from federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, General Services Administration, V.A. Hospitals, Department of Energy, National Aeronautical Space Administration, etc. Our program had 200 actively participating donees in 1994. Currently we have over 800 active donees utilizing our programs.

This agency's donees consist of local and state governments, public agencies, qualified 501 non-profit organizations such as educational programs, libraries, museums, child care centers, medical institutions, hospitals, health care centers, community action centers, and homeless activities. Qualified SBA 8(a) contractors are also able to participate.

Anything from office supplies, to airplanes and heavy equipment is potentially available for donation through LFPAA programs. Some examples of previously donated property are: helicopters, airplanes, boats of all types, cars, trucks, vans, truck-tractors, semi-trailers, motorcycles, ambulances, hearses, buses, mobile homes, forklifts, four-wheel drive vehicles, fire trucks, bulldozers, draglines, road graders, generators, medical equipment and supplies, hand tools, saws, metal working and shop equipment, scrap metal, portable welding machines, office equipment and supplies, furniture, clothing, computer equipment, law enforcement equipment, gas masks, portable radios, etc.


To re-utilize tax dollars by putting federal surplus property into the hands of qualified Louisiana entities.


The primary function of the Federal Property Assistance Program is to re-utilize the tax dollar by putting federal property no longer needed by the federal government into the hands of Louisiana entities. This surplus property may be used by all eligible donees in public and private education, public and private health facilities, cities, parish, and state governments, qualified 501 non-profit organizations, and qualified SBA 8(a) contractors.
